the voice of julie doman

Recently, we learned that unseen factors such as the energy of a home can dictate how an environment feels in day-to-day living. Part of what makes Julie Doman’s career so rewarding is the ability to create that energy from scratch.

As one of Denver’s most notable interior designers, Julie understands that there is so much more to a home than the floorplan and décor. By creating spaces that speak to both her clients’ personalized needs and her eye for clean design, Julie is able to craft homes that her clients consider their own unique sanctuaries.

What’s your story? Where did you get your start in interior design?
  • null
I went to school at Miami University and studied Interior Design. I’ve been working in residential and commercial design for many years. Last year I started my own residential design firm, Julie Doman Interior Design.

What called you to the Denver area?
  • null
My family and I moved here five years ago for our jobs. Several of our close friends lived here and it immediately felt like home. Denver is a great balance of urban and family living.

How do you interpret your clients’ needs to make a space that feels both functional and personal?
  • null
Having clients provide “wish lists” and getting to know their family routines is one of the first steps to personalizing their home. I provide realistic 3D renderings for all my clients, which helps them see exactly what they are getting. From the beginning of a project, I’m thinking about making a functional floorplan along with the furniture, art, and fixtures to create the look that fits that home.

What has been your favorite project to date?
  • null
That’s a tough question. Designing my close friend’s dream home was an incredibly rewarding experience. I also had a great experience designing Slack’s Denver corporate office a few years ago.  The office pushed the envelope in corporate design and focused on the employee’s day to day experience.

To what do you attribute your success?
  • null
I love my job. Throughout my career, I’ve worked on a variety of project types —including residential, corporate, hospitality and pre-fab — which has allowed me to draw on different experiences and implement new ways to design and build projects.

In what ways do you manage a work/life balance?
  • null
When working from home, it can be even harder to turn off work at the end of the day, but this flexibility has also allowed me to spend more time with family, which I’m very grateful for. Taking walks and making time to cook dinner always help me reset.

In your opinion, what makes a house a home?
  • null
Dinners around the table and dogs snuggling on the couch; thoughtful design helps, too.
