How did you find your calling in interior design? What drew you to it?
  • null
My childhood was steeped in art, history, and travel but it took a long time to find a career that married my strengths and interests. My graduate work was in the history of decorative arts; I spent time studying at Sotheby’s in London and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., interned at a historic house museum and then finally fell in love with the process of design when we bought our first home.

Give us the elevator pitch for Annabode. Who is your typical client and why do they choose you?
  • null
We are Denver’s only residential design firm that specializes in environmentally friendly and socially conscious interiors. Our clients come to us when they want high-level, turn-key interior design from a professional team but care about where their pieces come from, what’s in them and who made them.

How does artistry integrate into what you do on a daily basis?

Interior design is art, and our most successful projects are when clients realize that. We create one-of-a-kind beauty meant to evoke certain moods and moments in each room. Not only do we custom-design spaces, we also design the pieces and details in them from textiles and furniture to millwork and installations.

How do you work with clients to ensure that your designs fit their lifestyle or the story that they are trying to tell with their homes?

We have a proven 15-step process that ensures we have all the facts we need from clients before we begin sourcing. Many of our clients are families with young children and pets; as mothers ourselves, we are very familiar with designing for busy lifestyles.

To what or to whom do you attribute your success?
  • null
The generosity of the Denver creative community. So many people have given me their support, knowledge and encouragement over the years it’s been transformative.

Where do you find inspiration in your daily life? Do you have any recommended books, podcasts or publications?
  • null
As a history lover, mostly from people and places that have come before me. George Nakashima’s compound or Wharton Esherick’s quirky, self-built home (both in Pennsylvania) are two places that embody everything I love. My absolute favorite book when it comes to design is A Field Guide to American Houses by Virginia Savage McAlester, which details vernacular architecture in the United States by design period
